Facebook Page Tips: Building Your Contact List
I’ve been browsing Facebook business pages to evaluate what works well. Mine is a work in progress but it’s coming along thanks to my fabulous designers, and I am rather proud of it: www.facebook.com/YourWishMarketing.
Right now I’m working on getting my landing page and welcome page integrated with my contact management system, and I wanted to share with you my inspiration, which is the beautiful Facebook business page belonging to Melanie Kissell of Solo Mompreneur.
Her Facebook page is fabulous in the following ways:
- It has a well-defined niche.
- The page is about the visitor.
- It has a beautiful landing page and well-designed welcome page.
- It invites interaction and gives you a reason to Like the page.
- It provides a complete, user-friendly sign-up process for joining the company newsletter, and makes it irresistible to do so if you are a mom and an entrepreneur.
Let’s look at the break-down of what happens when you visit the page, and why it’s cool.
1. You come to the landing page and are enticed to Like the page.
2. Once you Like the page, you are presented with the Welcome page where you can enter your contact information to receive a free report and “Survival Kit.”
3. You sign up for her newsletter to get her survival kit, and the new page you receive tells you to be sure to check your email and activate your subscription. This is called “double opt-in” and it ensures that those who sign up really do want to hear from you. This is a good “best practice” for email marketing.
4. Once you go to your email and activate your subscription, you receive a confirmation message that your subscription is confirmed. Notice the consistent branding.
5. And to wrap it all up, you get a very warm message welcoming you and providing your free download. Again, the branding is carried through, and you also are given the opportunity to connect further.
You can find Melanie’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SoloMompreneur.
Many contact management systems now have excellent integration with Facebook. Melanie uses aweber and swears by it. She claims she is not at all technical and found the aweber tools to be easy to use. I use MailChimp and it also has an app you can use to integrate it with your Facebook page.

Wow-Wee, Jayna — what a fabulous treat!
I am totally jazzed and totally honored you’ve chosen to feature my Facebook fan page.
And you know what?
Even though this is my page, I’ve never seen all the elements laid out in this fashion.
Very cool!
And I would be remiss in leaving your comment box without mentioning the talented creator of my fan page, Jennifer Puckett! I would like to encourage (nudge, push, prod) your fans and followers to click the “Like” button on Jen’s Facebook page:

Many thanks, Jayna!!
You are quite welcome, Melanie. You’ve done a great job with your Facebook page, and I think a lot of people can learn from you.
Awesome! I enjoyed designing this landing page for Melanie. Her warm and welcoming personality (with lots of humor) made the creative process fun! I love how you have broke it all down into the steps to show the list building process. Great tips! My tip would be to engage, engage, engage! And get into a routine and schedule with updates to your page. Hopefully, in 2012…I will follow my own advice too, lol!
Thank you, Jen. Your “engage, engage, engage” tip is great, and it’s what we all aspire to. In future posts I’ll provide more tips and ideas on how to do that. I think getting great interaction on your Facebook page is the Holy Grail of Facebook marketing, as it will grow your credibility and bring you potential clients. Pair that with a good lead generation method, as you and Melanie have done, and you have a winning strategy!
